Welcome to our new ...
Curriculum Corner!

Introducing...
memoir classroom
Greetings from Brooklyn! We are delighted to launch our inaugural Curriculum Corner- a monthly newsletter for English Language Arts, Social Studies, Theater Arts and Health Education teachers and community-based educators who are interested in sharing innovative approaches to teaching.

The Curriculum Corner newsletter provides a way for us to share successful teaching strategies that encourage critical thinking, literacy, civic engagement, connection to school and healthy choices. We will focus on social context, specifically how race, class and gender intersect, and how that impacts adolescent health.

We want to hear from you!

Have you used a Scenarios USA film in your classroom? Have you ever participated in our What's the REAL DEAL? contest? Have you ever created a lesson plan or teaching tool to go with our films our contest? We want to connect you with other Scenarios USA educators so you can share resources and ideas.

Please send us any resources you would like to share with other educators. We will either include them in upcoming issues of our Curriculum Corner or post them on our Educators Center.

Also, please forward this email to those colleagues you think might also be interested in this resource. Thank you!

About me
EH at 08 Gala
Before moving to Brooklyn, New York, in 1999 I taught History at International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in the Netherlands. The IB Organization taught me how to write interdisciplinary, inquiry-based curriculum, based on the IBO's pedagogical fundamental concepts of holistic education and intercultural awareness.

I became involved with Scenarios USA by writing the Educator Guides for the What's the REAL DEAL? contests. In January 2008 I joined the team as the new Education and Outreach Manager, connecting with educators in schools and in community settings across the country to support you and the students you teach.

I'm currently writing our new What's the REAL DEAL About Masculinity? curriculum, which I'll tell you more about in the December Curriculum Corner.

The Scenarios USA films were written by teens for teens, in response to the Scenarios USA "What's the REAL DEAL?" writing contest. Contest winners make movies about a wide range of adolescent health topics with some of Hollywood's finest filmmakers. All Scenarios USA films explore relationships, communication, self-esteem and decision-making.

"The Scenarios USA films are relevant because the scripts are written by teens. And they are without a doubt the hippest, best-edited, most entertaining sex ed films ever made." - salon.com
